The bombing has been a shock to the Christian community. As SAT-7 employee George Makeen pointed out, “Being a minority, [Christians] feel more threatened and vulnerable.”
Today, SAT-7 mourns with thousands of Christians over the bombing of St Peter’s Coptic Orthodox Church in Cairo, Egypt. On December 11, 2016, a bag of explosives was left at the church and detonated, killing 25 people. Among those killed were two family members of a SAT-7 employee.
The bombing has been a shock to the Christian community. As SAT-7 employee George Makeen pointed out, “Being a minority, [Christians] feel more threatened and vulnerable.” Leading up to the bombing, there were other attacks; 6 soldiers were killed in Cairo during the weekend; on Friday, there was another attack in Souheig, Upper Egypt; and two weeks ago, terrorists attacked and killed a Christian.
Amidst this tragedy, SAT-7 remains supportive of its viewers. Joining in mourning for those, SAT-7 filmed and broadcasted the funeral service this morning and has scheduled several live shows to address current affairs related to the bombing. The SAT-7 ARABIC live program Bridges will air this evening and invite guests to tackle a variety of issues relating to the bombings. On tonight’s live broadcast from the Freedom Meeting, Maher Samuel, one of Egypt’s best-known preachers, will tackle this incident and related issues in his sermon.
Please pray for those who have lost loved ones in these attacks and pray for peace during a time that should be joyous. Currently, it is not understood what individual or group is responsible for the bombing. Yet, we know that God is in control and will heal all those involved in this tragedy.
“[For] He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” –Psalm 147:3
