God is not limited by censorship. Satellite television goes a long way in beaming His Word, uncensored, into the homes of millions throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Even though we face setbacks–such as the confiscation of equipment or arrests–we were not silenced! With your prayers and support, we were able to beat censorship.
Our Cairo studio operations came to a halt when Egypt’s censorship police unexpectedly confiscated equipment and arrested the Executive Director in October, 2015.
For three months, no live shows were running and relatively few programs recorded. Staff members at our Cairo office did not know when they could resume recording and editing programs, if ever. But the team had faith that God would see His work through to completion. They continued to meet together, praying and planning for the next season.
In January, 2016, the equipment was returned and the charges against the Executive Director had been dropped. He said, “During the last few weeks, our spiritual muscles were stretched. But the support of the worldwide Church kept us encouraged.” Victory over censorship did not come when the equipment was returned. It came when staff set an example in their faith and brought their troubles before God’s throne during trying times.
Viewers, who had been following reruns and sending encouraging messages, were excited to see live shows return. The children’s show Why Is That? premiered a new season of live episodes on April 1, 2016 after being on hold for six months. A mother from Egypt wrote, “Mr. Know has finally returned again. Welcome back. [My son] Vladimir will be so happy. By the way, four months ago, God gave him a sister named Verena. Pray for them, that they will grow up in the fear of the Lord.” Parents and children are finding joy and enrichment in the programs.
UPDATE: In recent weeks, millions of Egyptians have found themselves with their backs against the wall. The value of their currency has dropped by half and the cost of living is skyrocketing. During hard economic times, they are depressed and seeking stability. This is a time when the church can stand with them and let them know that their hope doesn’t have to rest in a government but in Christ.
God is not limited by censorship. He is making His Word known to millions across the Middle East. He hears their prayers and uses SAT-7 to give a platform to their voices. Thank you for making them heard through your support of SAT-7. Together, we can beat censorship.
